 Square-Headed Golf Drivers Reviews

Square-headed Drivers are the newest innovation in golf. They offer the highest Moment of Inertia (MOI) of all drivers. What this means for you is that you will hit your drives straighter, even on mis-hits. We review the top square drivers on the market and share with you our favorites.
For now, Callaway and Nike are the only major brands making a square driver. But look to the other golf driver manufacturers like Titleist, Ping, TaylorMade, Cobra and others to follw soon. Although touring professionals aren't using the new sqauare drivers (except KJ Choi), that doesn't mean they aren't a success. In fact, just the opposite. Tour players like clubs they can work (hitting fades and draws). The square drivers are so straight they make it harder (but not impossible) to hook or slice your shots. Most amateurs need help keeping the ball straight, and high MOI drivers help that by keeping even poorly struck shots in the fairway. So far, the square-headed drivers have the highest MOI of any driver available. Gigagolf's Ozzy MOTO 460 Ti

Gigagolf's Ozzy MOTO 460 Ti

Average Customer Rating:(4.86)

Gigagolf's Ozzy MOTO 460 Ti Driver
Gigagolf's Ozzy MOTO (formerly XQ MUTO) is a clone of the Nike Sasquatch Sumo Squared. It is custom built to your specifications regarding shaft type, flex and length and grip type. In our tests, the Ozzy MOTO was virtually indistinguishable from the Sasquatch Squared, but costs $300 less! That is what gives it our reviewers choice award for value.
The Ozzy MOTO doesn't cure your swing faults. We were still able to pull a few and push a few. But off-center hits still went very long and even toe hits only lost about 10 yards. The ball flight is generally high and straight, and swings that normally produced a banana slice yielded mild fades that still stayed in the fairway. When we teed it low, we were able to hit a lower boring shot into the wind, something we had trouble doing with the Ft-i. Overall, the Ozzy MOTO exceeded our expectations, especially for the price.
If you have to have the latest in brand name, get the the Nike driver. But if you just want to pound long, straight, drives and save yourself some money, this Nike clone will be your favorite driver ever. And since it looks almost exactly like the Sumo Squared, no one needs to know you saved $300.

Nike SasQuatch Sumo Squared Driver

Average Customer Rating:(4.72)

Nike SasQuatch Sumo Squared Driver
The Nike SasQuatch Sumo Squared Driver is a great new golf club. This would be our number one pick except for the price. The square-shaped head, while odd looking at first, actually helped us set up better to our target and aided us in lining up shots. Like all the other clubs in this review, the first time you hit the ball you are a bit stunned by the loud, somewhat obnoxious "tinny" sound it makes. But as soon as you see your ball soaring to places on the golf course you've never seen before, you quickly forgive the unpleasant sound. Since you usually only hit the driver 14 times a round, it's certainly something you can live with.
The Sumo Squared from Nike Golf is an exceptionally long and straight driver. The large face, square geometry, high MOI and lower CG all join together to deliver superior forgiveness and greater distance than any other conventional driver. If you don't mind paying for PGA player endorsements in your equipment, the Nike Sumo Squared is a great driver to buy.

Callaway FT-i Driver

Callaway FT-i Driver

Average Customer Rating:(4.45)

Callaway FT-i Driver:
The FT-i Driver from Callaway Golf represents a quantum leap in driver design. The FT-i Driver pushes weight and mass to the perimeters of the driver by using a square head design and a super-light composite construction. In our tests, this translated into long, straight, high shots.
Callaway has always been on the leading edge of golf club technology, and the FT-i is no exception. We found that people who routinely hit a 3-wood off the tee (due to an inability to consistently hit their regular driver) had no trouble launching it long and straight with the Callaway FT-i square headed driver. It sets up easy and despite the large head size, the Carbon Composite Body is lighter than titanium and makes it easier to control. This construction improves stability and distance without extra effort. We loved the FT-i in our testing. It launched the ball higher than the Sumo, which could be a problem in windy conditions, but overall, we probably hit it a little further and straighter with the FT-i than the other two clubs reviewed. The obvious negative is the steep price. High R&D, advertising and player endorsement costs make the FT-i the most expensive club in this lineup. If we could put this driver in our bag for the $99 the Ozzy MOTO costs, it would be there. Maybe someday...

Square drivers are here to stay. Golf technology has advanced to the point where you are at a distinct disadvantage if you aren't using the latest equipment. Give one of the new square-headed drivers a try and see if it doesn't lower your score and make the game of golf more enjoyable for you. It did for me!

We wish you all the best on choosing the right for YOU!

Best Regards
